How to Watch IPTV on Samsung and LG Smart TVs

You don't need a stick or box to watch IPTV. Most Samsung and LG smart TVs can run an IPTV player directly. Here's how to set it up.

Watching IPTV directly on your smart TV is the tidiest setup possible: no extra remote, no extra box and no extra cables. Samsung TVs run an operating system called Tizen, and LG TVs run webOS. Both have app stores with a selection of IPTV players. This guide explains how to find a player, add your subscription and get the best performance.

How IPTV works on a smart TV

Your smart TV cannot play an IPTV subscription on its own. It needs a player app. Players on Samsung and LG generally work in one of two ways:

  • Direct login: you enter your Xtream Codes details or M3U link straight into the app using the TV remote.
  • Web portal activation: the app shows a device ID or MAC address on screen. You visit the player's website on your phone or computer, enter that ID and paste in your playlist. The TV then loads it automatically. This saves a lot of typing with the remote.

Some smart TV players are free, while others charge a small one-time or yearly activation fee to the app developer after a trial period. This fee goes to the app maker and is separate from your IPTV subscription.

Setting up IPTV on a Samsung smart TV (Tizen)

  1. Press the Home button on your remote and open Apps.
  2. Select the search icon and type “IPTV”. You will see a list of available IPTV players.
  3. Choose a well-reviewed player and select Install.
  4. Open the app. Note the device ID / MAC address if one is displayed.
  5. Add your playlist, either directly in the app or via the player's website, using the details provided by your IPTV service.
  6. Restart the app. Your channels, movies and series should load.

Samsung's app store differs by country and TV model year. If you cannot find a particular player, ask us and we will suggest an alternative that works with your model.

Setting up IPTV on an LG smart TV (webOS)

  1. Press the Home button and open the LG Content Store (called “Apps” on newer models).
  2. Use the search function to look for “IPTV”.
  3. Install your chosen player and open it.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to add your M3U link or Xtream Codes login.
  5. Wait for the channel list and programme guide to load.

Tips for the best picture on a smart TV

  • Use the TV's Ethernet port. Built-in Wi-Fi on many TVs is weaker than on dedicated streaming devices, so a cable makes a big difference.
  • Keep the TV firmware updated through Settings → Support → Software Update.
  • Turn off motion smoothing if fast sport looks unnatural; this is a picture setting, not a stream problem.
  • Close background apps and restart the TV fully from time to time by unplugging it for a minute.

What if my TV is old or the app is not available?

Older smart TVs sometimes have limited app stores or slow processors. The easiest solution is an affordable streaming device such as an Amazon Firestick or an Android TV box. They plug into any HDMI port, have more player options and are often faster than the TV's own software.

Common smart TV IPTV problems

The playlist will not load

Double-check the link or login details for typing errors. If you used a web portal, make sure the device ID matches exactly and restart the app after saving.

No programme guide

Some players need the EPG to be enabled or refreshed in settings. Using Xtream Codes login usually loads the guide automatically.

Picture freezes during live events

Switch to a wired connection or try a lower quality version of the channel. Our guide on fixing IPTV buffering has more solutions.
